Yes, I heard that they want to eradicate the coquíes in Hawaii, what a sad thing, que pena, that they don't like them. I think their chirp is melodious and I love it, of course, I'm a boricua!

But, hey - I think it will be a fruitless effort. The only way they are going to get rid of them right now is to destroy the forests, as they are doing in our beloved Borinquen. Hopefully the coquíes will spread to all the forests in all the islands. They might die out in Puerto Rico, but they will remain in Hawaii.

At the time of the Taino Indians in Puerto Rico there were trillions of coquíes there. Slowly with deforestation the populations have been dwindling. Last time I visited Puerto Rico you could practically count the coquíes chirping. It is very sad indeed.
